Following the overwhelming popularity of Dan y Cownter (Under the Counter) and Dan y Cownter 2 - two previously released CDs featuring the best and latest music from Wales, distributed for free in order to promote Welsh language music; Welsh Music Foundation is proud to present this brand new website - the third edition in the series: "Dan Y Cownter 3".
The website offers ten Welsh Language tracks available for free download and there is also a host of information detailing businesses and organisations working within the Welsh music scene including record labels, festivals, regular gigs, websites and fanzines.
Here's an introduction from Huw Stephens, BBC Radio 1 and Radio Cymru C2 DJ, who helped to draw up a shortlist of the music on Dan Y Cownter 3:
"Welcome to the third instalment of Dan y Cownter; ingeniously titled Dan y Cownter 3. We're pleased to bring you ten slabs of ace new Welsh music for free and for you to enjoy. Elsewhere on this site you'll find links to radio and television programmes, websites and info on forthcoming gigs and festivals. If you like what you hear, the artists have a whole load of music for you to devour. Tell your friends about it, shout it from the rooftops. But before all of that, get your ears around these new tunes, all in Welsh, all from Wales, and all sounding as crisp as the day they were born."
Youth groups from all around Wales have helped to choose which tracks have been included on the site, and we are very grateful to Aelwyd Treforys / Morriston Youth Club and Menter Abertawe, Y Gwallgofiaid in Blaenau Ffestiniog, the Bocswn crew, Amlwch and the Merthyr Tydfil Youth Project for their help, as well as to Mr Huw Stephens for his time and musical tastes.
